DFA November 2010 News

What an exciting October we had.

To finish up the month and celebrate Halloween, DFA participated in the Palm Desert Golf Cart Parade.  Our float entry was a giant candy corn designed and built by Diane Whan and me and transported by DFA foil/epee fencer Mark Johnson.

We were entered in the School Spirit category and took FIRST PLACE!

Our participants included: Claudia Bueermann, Jacob Carrillo, Ellis DeVoe, Emily Goldstone, Cory Hutchinson, Danny King, William McCloud, Brian Ortega, Arturo Perez, John Phillips, Nick Richardson, Sarah Rosenblum.

Friday, October 22, I was up at the 29 Palms Marine Base for their health and fitness day.  I was there from 9 am to 12 noon and was the hit of the day.  So many of the men and women Marines lined up to take a 15 minute fencing lesson (the weapon was sabre) and then go and spar.  Next year, I’d like to take some of the our fencers with me.  Both the Marines and the kids would get a kick out of it.

November 6, 2010, J.O. Quals at Harvey Mudd, schedule posted on AskFred.net

December 4, 2010, 3-weapon open at Harvey Mudd, close of check-in 9 a.m. for sabre, 10 a.m. for foil and 12 noon for epee.

DFA will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, November 25 and Friday, November 26.  DFA will be open on Saturday, November 27.

Wishing everyone a great November, a Happy Thanksgiving and blissful fencing,
