DFA October 2010 News

What an exciting September we had.  All our fencers back from vacation, new fencers, lots of Desert Sun and TV coverage, and our new group of competitive fencers made their fencing debut at the College of the Desert tournament on Saturday, September 18.

Ellis Devoe, Danny King and Nick Richardson fenced sabre and went toe-to-toe with the Mexicali national team.

Alex Okamoto fenced epee and his first D.E. (direct elimination bout) was against our very own Danny Torres.  Bout score was 15 Danny, Alex 8.  Very good sparring.

John Phillips and Erin Stigall did double duty fencing both sabre and epee!

Max Barber came home for the week and fenced in the tournament.  Max fenced sabre and earned his E10 rating and took 3rd place in epee.

Max’s mom, Ann Oswald, went up against former 2005 U.S. Olympic pentathlete Gary Moe, and found “the zone” and won the D.E. 15-13.

Current U.S. Olympic Pentathlon hopeful, Rendy Opdycke, competed in epee and took 23rd out of the 42 competitors.
