DFA June 2010 News

Hi to everyone…Happy June and Happy Father’s Day1

As we move into Summer, please know that our fencing days and times remain unchanged.

SPARRING DAYS AND TIMES:

Sabre fencers:  Mondays 4 pm – 6 pm, Wednesdays 3 pm – 5pm, Fridays 5 pm – 7 pm, Saturdays, 9 am – 11 am.

Foil & Epee fencers:  Thursdays 5 pm – 8 pm, Saturdays, 12 noon – 3 pm.

NEWSY NEWS:

Ann and her son Max, Beverly Vorwaller and I were in Las Vegas for the Pacific Coast Championships, May 8-9, the Mother’s Day weekend.

Max fences Men’s Epee and finished 19 our of 41.

We ladies had a great Mother’s Epee Day winning the kind of jewelry we really wanted — Ann took the silver medal and Beverly and I took the bronze in Veteran Women’s Epee.  We also made up an epee team and finished 4th in Women’s Team Epee.

PCC’s is always on the Mother’s Day weekend and is one of the most competitive and fun tournaments our Pacific Coast Section hosts.

Two of our fencers are graduating from Palm Desert High School this month, Gretchen Bueermann and Max Barber.  Gretchen will be doing a great deal of traveling and then going on to Colorado College.

Max is travelling, too.  He’ll be going to Portland to work at OFA, Oregon Fencing Alliance, and be under the tutelage of Master Ed Korfanty, the U.S. Olympic women’s sabre coach.

Just a reminder, it is best to call me or text me during the day.  I don’t get to my computer to check email messages until late at night or first thing in the morning.

Wishing everyone a great June, blissful fencing, and to all you Dads, a wonderful Father’s Day!
