Leslie and Russell holding medals

Hi to everyone and happy September!

Seems like Summer flew by and now we’re gearing up for the 2009-2010 fencing season!

DFA officially re-opens Tuesday, September 1.  Our fencing schedule remains the same and I’ve attached a copy of the schedule.

I know the kids are heading back to school and may have new schedules, but I’ll be at the club starting September 1 and I’ll keep everyone at their fencing lesson day and time unless I hear otherwise.

SPARRING DAYS AND TIMES:

For our competitive and soon to be competitive fencers, electric fencing days and times for you are:

  • Sabre fencers, Monday at 5 pm – 6:30 pm and Friday at 6 pm – 9 pm
  • Foil and Epee fencers, Thursday at 5 pm – 8 pm and Friday at 6 pm – 9 pm

Open, non-electric, fencing and footwork drills are:

  • Sabre, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 3 pm – 5 pm and Saturdays 9 am – 11 am
  • Foil and Epee, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3 pm – 5 pm and Saturdays 12 noon – 2 pm

LESSON FEES:

Lesson fees remain the same, $30 monthly membership and $20 per lesson.

Members can either pay for all lessons at the beginning of the month, or pay per lesson.

P.E. CREDITS:

If your child is fencing with us, please check with their school to see if they can earn their P.E. credits through us.  I can keep track of their monthly fencing hours.
TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE:

I have attached a copy of the 2009-2010 tournament schedule.  It is also posted to the DFA website, the San Bernardino Division website and AskFred.net.

The first tournament of the season is at College of the Desert, Saturday, September 19, 2009, in the Wright Gymnasium.

Close of check-in times are 9:00 am for sabre, 10 am for foil and 12 noon for epee.

Wishing everyone a great September and blissful fencing,

Leslie Taft
Fencing Coach
